As part of our top Orlando destinations and Orlando Vacation Package getaways, we had the opportunity to link up with Rooms101, who graciously sponsored our weekend getaway which allowed us to have a personal experience using their Orlando vacation reservation services. Our accommodations included a two night stay at the Calypso Cay Resort and two tickets to Islands of Adventure.
A Weekend At The Calypso Cay Resort
For this Orlando vacation package, we stayed at the Calypso Cay Resort for two nights in a One Bedroom Villa. The Villa provided all the necessary amenities for comfort from home as well as convenience. Having a kitchen was the best part of staying at this resort because we had the option of preparing our own meals. The resort also gave us the option to order groceries ahead of time.
Church Street Station
We got ready for a night out in the town and began our little adventure at Church street Station at around 10:30 pm. At this hour it is fairly easy to find parking and people are just starting to come out so we decided to see everything first. There are so many cool and themed bars in this area as well as some of the best restaurants.
After having our fill of the street we decided to end the night for checking out Gringos Locos for a couple giant stuffed burritos. We came at a good time around 12:30-1:00 am so it wasn’t very crowded and we got our orders quickly, the “Dirty Sanchez” for the win.
After a fun night out we headed back to the resort and prepared for Islands of Adventure the next day.
Keke’s Breakfast Cafe
The next morning we slept in till about 10:00 am and got ready for an exciting day ahead of us. We decided to check out Keke’s Breakfast Cafe, the local hometown diner of Orlando. We ordered the “Blueberry Stuffed French Toast” and “Eggs Portabella” which we highly recommend. Whether it’s sweet or savory they have all the options at this joint.
And now for the highlight of our trip; Islands of Adventure! Keke’s Breakfast Cafe was about 10 minutes away from the park making it the ideal place to grab a bite before heading out.
Universal City Walk
We made our way through Universal City Walk and checked out what it had to offer. There are so many amazing places to eat, bars to grab a drink, a movie theater, and free street entertainment to enjoy. Since it was possible to spend hours enjoying and exploring City Walk, we decided to come back after we went to the park.
Islands of Adventure Theme Park
We begin at the Port of Entry and made our way into the park. Around here there are many sweet treats to choose from. You can treat yourself to a decadent slice of cheesecake from the “Croissant Moon Bakery” or satisfy your sweet tooth with a Classic Cinnamon Roll from “Cinnabon”.
We continued forward until we got to the edge of the giant lake in the middle of the park. From here you can get an idea where everything is and what there is to see like Poseidon’s Trident and the Hogwarts Castle. The weather was absolutely beautiful and not too hot; it felt amazing to be outside. Perfect for a photo opportunity.
The first part of the park we wanted to explore was The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The distance allowed us to do a round at the park and get a good look at everything there was to see. During that time is when we snapped the most photos. At Marvel Super Hero Island It really feels like you are walking through the Marvel Universe. We rode The Incredible Hulk Coaster where you get the chance to experience the “Lab Disaster” that started it all.
Toon Lagoon is an exciting and colorful place to play in! There are so many photo opportunities with all the “thought bubbles” floating around. Classic characters like Betty Boop and Marmaduke live here in this cartoon world you probably grew up watching. It’s a great place to bring your kids to because the rides cater mostly to them.
Past Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride is Jurassic Park. Here, children have a giant prehistoric playground to play in as well as the Pteranodon Flyers ride specially made for them. For those who are interested in learning more about the fascinating giants that walked this earth millions of years ago then Jurassic Park Discovery Center is a must. If you don’t mind getting a little wet you should go on the Jurassic Park River Adventure ride, it’s worth it!
We finally made it to Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade! If you are even remotely a fan you will absolutely fall in love with this section of the park. Upon entry we saw a cute dance routine performed by the students of the “Beauxbatons Academy” as well as a scene reenactment.
Next we quickly found our place in line for frozen Butterbeer and proceeded through the castle doors and into the “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride. This ride is incredible and truly a must-see; you actually feel as though you are at Hogwarts. Listen for the word around town from the paintings, sneak out of class with Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and learn to fly your own broom all in one magical place.
After we got our fill of Harry Potter World we headed straight for Poseidon’s Fury past the Mystic Fountain located in the Lost Continent for an archeological discovery. Things got weird after our tour guide Taylor found herself in some hot water when she read the forbidden spell on the wall and awakened the sleeping demon. We found ourselves at the mercy of the gods during the final epic battle but victory was surly ours.
Seuss Landing is your childhood on steroids. How many fish do you see? What colors are they? Oh boy is that a Cat in a Hat?! I’m sure you’ll our green eggs and ham. All your Dr. Seuss stories and characters in one place. A great section especially for children, there are a lot of fun things for them to enjoy like the “Caro-Seuss-el” and the “High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride!”
We left the park and headed to the Orlando Premium Outlet for some quick shopping at Victoria’s Secret. We wanted to pick up some bathing suits so that we can enjoy the heated pools back at the resort. After we stopped at Publix and picked up a freshly made ultimate sub, pizza, and a bottle of wine for dinner. The rest of the evening was reserved for rest and relaxation after a long yet amazingly fun-filled weekend.
The next morning, we packed our bags and said goodbye to the lovely Calypso Cay Resort, sure to come back for another adventure soon.
